David Kordansky Gallery is very pleased to announce its representation of Jon Pestoni, and its participation in Frieze New York with a solo presentation of his work. The presentation will include new paintings that exemplify a recognizable and idiosyncratic vocabulary predicated on the blurring of foreground and background, and the use of brushwork that often doubles as cancellation. In Pestoni’s work, a mark can unite aspects of a composition even as it contradicts them; many different layers of colors, marks, and intentions are combined into a singular, determined, and seductive dissonance. As a result, he is able to skillfully orchestrate what might otherwise be opposing or competing concerns into a simultaneously knowing and urgent practice of painting. In addition to the Frieze New York presentation, Pestoni’s first solo exhibition with the gallery will open in November, 2012.
