BUDAPEST,  World-renowned conceptual artist Gerry Judah unveiled a brand new ‘skate-able’ sculpture in collaboration with champion skateboarder Rune Glifberg at burn Yard™ Live today. Glifberg, known as ‘The Danish Destroyer,’ christened the new sculpture with a spectacular sequence of tricks in front of a thousand-strong audience as part of the global creative program, burn Yard™.

Through the burn Yard™ program, burn energy drink has brought together a collective of the world’s most creative thinkers from the worlds of street art, Electronic Dance Music and action sports. Coming together from completely different cultures and creative backgrounds, Judah has taken Glifberg as his muse throughout the creative process.

Gerry Judah commented: “Now that I’ve seen Rune skating over the sculpture, I can finally say that it is finished. The sculpture has its own life but these young guys skating on it is what gives it soul. We don’t pay enough attention to space in our world. Spaces are there to be utilized and I’m rather pleased to have played my part in bringing this one back to life.”

The 14 ton structure is a creative play on the classic ‘half-pipe’ shape is the biggest skate ramp in Europe. Housed in an ex-industrial building in Budapest, the sculpture captures the dynamism and energy of the space which has now become a canvas for local street artists and urban creatives.

Rune Glifberg said: “As a skater, when I’m looking at the world I am looking through different eyes. My eyes immediately see the unique shapes and features of each structure, like the board is already grinding over its lines. As soon as I saw Gerry’s sculpture for burn Yard I was transported into the routine, the tricks and the flips. My heart was pounding super fast. Riding it was pretty sick.”

burn Yard™ Live aimed to bring a new creative energy to discarded and obsolete objects, making them beautiful again. Transforming the space through sculpture, street art and electronic dance music the event showcased contributions from some of the world’s leading artists and creatives including international DJ Avicii, Lotus F1® Team driver Kimi Räikkönen and street artist M-City.

The burn Yard™program aims to nurture and inspire creative talent and provide a platform to showcase groundbreaking ideas. The creative processes leading up to burn Yard™ Live have been documented in a behind-the-scenes video series. The first episode of the video series will premier at www.youtube.com/burn on August 5, 2013.
