April, 2018 –To celebrate its sponsorship of the V&A’s forthcoming exhibition, Frida Kahlo: Making Her Self Up, Grosvenor Britain & Ireland (‘Grosvenor’) will open Frida’s Parlour – an interactive installation and workshop space inspired by the remarkable 20th century artist, in Belgravia.

Open from 19 May to 16 June, Frida’s Parlour will host a series of creative workshops in the main room, which has been designed to echo the iconic Casa Azul (Blue House), Frida’s famed residence in Mexico City, where she would regularly entertain.

The Workshop programme has been inspired by Kahlo’s style and personality and will include:

  • Flower Arranging with Moyses Stevens Flowers
  • Floral Headdress Making with Judith Blacklock Flower School
  • Floral cocktail-making with Cubbitt House
  • Paper Flower Making with Lora Avedian
  • Floral embroidery with Lora Avedian
  • Self-Portraiture with Dan Whiteson

Bookings for the workshops are essential and will be taken via www.fridasbelgravia.com where the full programme, including schedule and pricing, is also available to view. Entry to Frida’s Parlour is free and visitors are encouraged to drop in and enjoy the interactive installation and social space.

The parlour’s interactive installation, Wallpaper Room, will be the first of its kind in London.  Inspired by the green floral backdrop featured in Nickolas Muray’s iconic photograph Frida Kahlo on The Bench, it will provide the ultimate photo opportunity. Wallpaper will cover the floor, furniture, ceiling and walls, and visitors will be encouraged to take and share their own Frida-inspired selfie.

Frida’s Parlour opens on the first day of Frida’s Belgravia in Bloom, the week-long floral festival which coincides with the Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show.  Taking place from 19 – 26 May, Belgravia in Bloom will see retailers create vibrant floral installations, unique displays and Mexican-themed menus. With over 50 retailers taking part, the area will truly bloom with colour and textures inspired by Frida.

The first 40 visitors per day to Frida’s Parlour during Belgravia in Bloom will receive a limited-edition tote bag, designed by artist Zabou, whose Frida-inspired larger-than-life mural can be enjoyed in Belgravia’s Eccleston Yards.
